Mission and Strategic Objectives
The department’s vision is to be unit of scientific merit and integrity that responds to societal and environmental issues by provision of quality graduates. The mission to realize this vision is to transmit knowledge and produce highly competent graduates in the discipline of Botany for both the formal and informal sector, conduct ground breaking scientific research to address societal needs.

Specifically, the main strategic objectives of the department are 

• To systematically expand undergraduate and postgraduate student enrolment
•  To improve the quality, relevance and environment of teaching and learning
•  To improve human resource capacity development, management and utilisation
• To improve volume and quality of research and publications, consultancy and public service
• To improve linkages with other institutions both locally and externally
•  To address and re-dress gender imbalance among staff and students
