Math4SGD Project Overview

The project “Mathematics for Sustainable Development” sponsored by NORHED II is a partnership between the Department of Mathematics of the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Department of Mathematics of  Makerere University (Uganda) and the Department of Mathematics of University of Bergen (Norway).  

The main components of the project are PhD training, research and outreach activities. The focus areas are Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education and Health Sciences. The project aims at capacity building in Mathematics and Mathematics Education, enhancing quality research in Mathematics and Mathematics Education.

 

The overall goal of the project is to enhance mathematical literacy in Tanzania and Uganda. Four outcomes are defined:

  • quality research output in mathematics and mathematics education,
  • updated PhD programme
  • established PhD & MSc in mathematics education,  and
  • higher visibility of the departments.

 

Partner Institutions

The Partner Institutions in Math4SDG Project are academic units  at the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), the University of Bergen (Norway) and  the Makerere University (Uganda).  The units involved are:

  • Department of Mathematics and Department of Educational Psychology and Curriculum Studies in the School of education  at the University of Dar Es Salaam,
  • Department of Mathematics, Institute of Open, Distance and eLearning and College of Health Sciences at Makerere University.
  • Department of Mathematics at University of Bergen.
