Nestory E. Yamungu (PhD) is a lecturer in the Department Geography at the University of Dar es Salaam. He previously worked as a Town Planner at Namtumbo District Council after which he joined the department in 2009. Over the past 10 years he has been dedicated particularly in linking theory and practice of urban planning in Tanzania. Nestory specialises on urban governance which inter alia include urban planning, community/participatory land use planning, understanding urban systems, local governance, regional development and application of GIS. He has long-term research interest on the planning in small towns which are predominantly rural and their contribution to the development of sustainable urban settlements in the global South. Apart from teaching and research he is also involved in consultancy and community outreach services on issues related to urban and rural land use planning, community engagement and GIS application.
