A Member of Parliament responsible for higher learning institutions, Hon. Dr. Paulina Nahato visited DUCE last week. Dr. Nahato was received by the Deputy Principal (Academic, Research and Consultancy), Dr. Christina Raphael on behalf of the College Principal. 

This special visitation was part of her mission that aimed at sharing challenges facing universities in Tanzania. These challenges are related to scholarships for academic staff, curriculum improvement, ICT facilities, lecture theatres, students’ loans, and students’ accommodation, just to mention a few. 

Speaking during a brief meeting, Dr. Nahato acknowledged the role played by the government in supporting Universities through Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET). This is a five years project which is being implemented by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) in collaboration with the World Bank, aiming at improving and transforming higher education in Tanzania. The project is expected to promote education standards to 14 Higher education institutions in Tanzania, including the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE). 

Finally, Hon. Nahato, who is also an educationist called for continued cooperation, meetings and discussions between Higher Learning Intuitions and her office.
