A team of Staff members from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences organized a practical training orientation programme for the first year students undertaking Bachelor of Arts in Disaster Risk Management. The event took place on 16th July 2022 at the College Board room.

Speaking during the training, the programme Coordinator, Dr. Alexander Songoro said the purpose of the training was to orient students to acquire work experiences related to their studies and which they are likely to exercise in different work places in the country upon completion of their degree programme. He also said the training will provide students with an ample opportunity to acquire appropriate work experience to complement the academic training that will finally enable them to serve their communities better after graduation.

The Head of Department, Dr. Eveline Mcharo, pointed out that after the field work students have to write a report which will be submitted not later than Friday of the fourth week of the first semester of their second year.

On his side, the facilitator, Dr. Edmund Temba said the overall assessment for practical training is based on the student’s evaluation sheets, student’s logbook, supervisor’s report and student’s practical report.

The training was officiated by the Dean of Faculty, Dr. Edwin Babeiya on behalf of the Deputy Principal Academic, Research and Consultancy (ARC). In his remarks, Dr. Babeiya said the students are expected to show high standards of responsibility, discipline, cooperation and efficiency in their field work stations.

Bachelor of Arts in Disaster Risk Management is a newly developed programme. The need for the programme stems from the growing demand of expertise in the field of Disaster and how to manage disasters by using skills and available resources.
