DUCE has continued participating in the Uhuru torch race at Temeke District. DUCE, like other Public Institutions located in Temeke district warmly received the Uhuru touch at Tazara grounds - Temeke. The Uhuru torch race preparation committee was organised by Temeke District Commissioner, Hon. Jokate Mwegelo with support from other private and government institutions.  

This year’s Uhuru Torch race is aimed at reminding Tanzanians on the need to actively participate in the planned 2022 National Population and Housing Census.” 

This call was made recently by the fore-runner of the Uhuru torch 2022, Mr. Sahili Nyanzabara Gararuma.  He further said, the Uhuru torch race is supported with the theme“Sensa ni msingi wa mipango ya maendeleo: shiriki kuhesabiwa, tuyafikie maendeleo ya Taifa,” to mean census is an essential element in development planning, be prepare to be counted, to achieve National development.    

It was informed that data collected from the count will help the government to obtain basic information needed to implement the Development Vision 2025 initiative as well as other health and social reforms.

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania plans to conduct a Population and Housing Census on 23rd August 2022. The Ministry of Finance and Planning through the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Statistician of Zanzibar (OCGS), is in the process of preparing to conduct the Census. The Population and Housing Census is a national exercise conducted every 10 years where the last census to be held in the country is the one in 2012.

The Uhuru torch exhibitions continued over-night at Zakhem grounds - Mbagala. At such grounds, other institutions provided health services such as donating blood, HIV testing, provision of COVID-19 vaccination and testing other diseases including blood pressure and diabetes.
