Postgraduate Studies and Research

  • Coordinating all postgraduate admission processes, training and examinations
  • Responsible for coordinating internal and external linkages on all matters related to research and setting up of internal administrative links.
  • Facilitate securing research funds from public, private and external sources

Facilitate and support marketing & utilisation of research results where appropriate;

  • Keep as custodian of research output on behalf of the College, a register of all R&D activities and acquisition of patents;
  • Establish and publish a regular Research Bulletin and Research Annual Report or any other similar publication indicating the status of research activity within the College.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

The Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) offers four postgraduate programmes. These include: Master of Arts with Education (M.A. Ed.) which has six streams, namely; Linguistics, Geography, Kiswahili Literature, Kiswahili Linguistics, Literature and History. Degree Programme; Master of Science with Education (MSC.ED) which has two streams namely: Biology and Chemistry and Master of Arts in Public Administration (Evening). The college also offers Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) through evening and online modes.

  • Entry Requirements for M.A with Education
  • First degree in education Arts Subjects (e.g. B.A (Ed.), or B.Ed. (Arts) from a recognised institution of higher learning with at least a lower second class of GPA not less than 2.7 or its equivalent. In order to take Language streams of the MA (Ed.) programme one has to have studied any of the following in the undergraduate degree: Linguistics, Kiswahili, French, English and Literature. For Geography and History streams one has to have studied the particular subjects in the undergraduate degree.

OR

  • BA (Kiswahili), BA (Language Studies), BA (English), BA (Geography and Environmental Studies), BA (French), BA (Literature) and BA (History) with GPA not less than 2.7 plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognised institution of higher learning with at least an average pass of B in their final University Examination of the PGDE Programme.

      Duration: The Programme runs for 24 months

1.2 Entry Requirements for MSc with Education

(i)        First degree in education (e.g. B.Sc. (Ed.) (Sc.)) from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least a lower second GPA of not less than 2.7 or its equivalent.  In order to take Biology stream of the M.Sc. (Ed.) programme one has to have studied Biology in the undergraduate degree.  For Chemistry stream one has to have studied Chemistry in the undergraduate degree.

OR

  • Sc with a Background in Chemistry or Biology plus a Postgraduate diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least an average pass of B in their final University Examination.\

      Duration: The Programme runs for 24 months

1.3  Entry Requirements for Master of Arts in Public Administration (Evening)  

Applicants will be required to have at least a first degree in public administration, political science, education with majors in public administration and/or political science or any related fields from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least a lower second GPA of not less than 2.7 or its equivalent.

1.4 Entry requirements for Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE           

A first degree or advanced diploma in any field other than education from a recognised institution of higher learning. Candidates with science background are highly encouraged to apply.

Duration: The Programme runs for 12 months (One year)
