About Us

The University of Dar es Salaam offers a wide range of postgraduate programmes in PhD, Masters and Postgraduate diploma levels. The programmes are offered by thesis (research mode) and by coursework and dissertation (taught mode) or by both modes.The Director of Postgraduate Studies (DPGS) is mandated to overseeing the conduct and administration of postgraduate study programmes including teaching, examinations, awarding of post-graduate degrees, diplomas and certificates, as well as the competence of academic staff who participate in the teaching, supervision and examining of graduate students.  The office oversees the co-ordination of the academic management, which by their nature, are carried out by academic units where the teaching is delivered. These includes administrative aspects required for introduction, developmentand approval of new qualifications and new programmes, admissions process for official Master's, Doctorate Courses, Sandwich and short-term trainings, diffusion, co-ordination, preparation and processing of applications for the official calls of admissions, registration, monitoring the progress, and examinations. The DPGS is also responsible for formulating and carryout regular review of the policy framework and regulations for postgraduate studies. It is the university arm in preparing, verifying and enforcing rules and regulations pertaining to graduate studies in so far as such rules and regulations have been approved by Senate in order to ensure effective and harmonious coordination and implementation among the internal and external key role players.
