Prof. Nelson Boniface (PhD) is a current Director of Undergraduate Studies of the University of Dar es Salaam.

He is an associate professor of Geology at the Department of Geosciences, University of Dar es Salaam. He is a graduate of the University of Dar es Salaam (BSc. Hons and MSc in Geology) and the University of Kiel (PhD in Mineralogy: Magna Cum Laude).

Research Interest:

  • Dynamics and mountain building processes of the ancient metallic mineral and gemstone provinces (Proterozoic Orogenic Belts of Tanzania)
  • Processes of rifting, opening of ocean basins and formation of oil-gas deposits (Structural aspects of the Phanerozoic Sedimentary Coastal basins of Tanzania).
  • Characteristics of strategic and rare earth element (REE) deposits (e.g. Nb, Ta, Ti) in the current and ancient rifts.

He has supervised and co-supervised PhD and MSc graduates at the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Brest University (France), Utrecht University (The Netherlands), Akita University (Japan) and Tohoku University (Japan).

His is a co-author of the Minerogenic Map of Tanzania (book, software, and map) and has authored and co-authored a number of papers and letters published in Journals indexed by preeminent academic databases e.g. Scopus (ELSEVIER), J-Gate, GeoRef etc.
