He is a Senior Lecturer in the Marine Technology and Innovation Section (MTI) of the Institute of Marine Sciences of the University of Dar es Salaam with PhD in Marine Sciences. His areas of research include, marine conservation biology, population genetics and restoration ecology. He has spent over 12 years in studying molecular adaptation of coral reefs to bleaching in the Western Indian Ocean. He is supervising three PhD students who are conducting their research on tilapia farming and fisheries by using molecular approaches. Therefore, in addition to coral reef ecology, he has expanded his professional study areas to fish genetics.
