Plentiful felicitations surface Dr. Mapana's appointment

The University of Dar es Salaam community has expressed plentiful and heartfelt felicitations to Dr. Kedmon Elisha Mapana for his appointment by H.E President Samia Suluhu Hassan as the Executive Secretary of the National Arts Council (BASATA).

A statement that broke out the news of the appointment was released by the Director of Presidential Communications, Zuhura Yunus, on July 9, 2022 and indicated that Dr. Mapana would assume the new position immediately from the day of the news release.

Many colleagues have congratulated Dr. Mapana for “a well-deserved appointment” and were optimistic that he would do excellently in this new role given his keen interest, exposure, experience and knowledge in the Arts discipline.

“Congratulations to Dr. Mapana for this appointment; and we can all bear testimony to your great works in the respective area, locally and internationally; I wish you all the best in your new role” said, Dr. George Kahangwa.

“Many congratulations to Dr. Mapana. They have indeed picked up (taken) the best ever. All the best”, said Professor Imani Sanga, another Music guru at the University of Dar es Salaam Creative Arts Department.

Dr. Mapana, a senior lecturer and head, University of Dar es Salaam Department of Creative Arts, assumes the position which was left vacant by another former Creative Arts don, Mr. Godfrey Lebejo Mngereza, who passed away in December, 2020.

Dr. Mapana is a renowned Music guru who is very prominent for his majestic stage performances and uniquely attractive choir conducting styles in different occasions inside and outside the University.

He holds a PhD in Education, focusing on musical traditions in the school curriculum (attitudes of Tanzanian Music Educators) from the Seattle Pacific University, USA; a Master of Arts with concentrations in Ethnomusicology and a Bachelor of Arts in Fine and Performing Arts, both from the University of Dar es Salaam.

“I am very positive about this position; and very glad that I am posted to Arts, the area that has always been my profound interest. I see that I am deeply indebted to the nation in this regard that makes me promise to render my service so diligently for the public interest”, expressed Dr. Mapana.
