AUXILIARY POLICE (AUXILIARY)

Welcome to Auxiliary Police Unit

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Auxiliary Police website. This website platform provides information on various services offered by the Auxiliary Police to the University community. Auxiliary Police is a government agency created in accordance with the laws of the country, with the aim of helping to fulfill police duties in specific areas. The decision to establish auxiliary police in Tanzania was reached in 1948 and the auxiliary police law chapter 262 was enacted. Due to the changes that have been made, this law is currently known as the police and auxiliary police law chapter 322.

Administration, Management and Leadership of Auxiliary Police.

After the President approves the relevant areas to be allowed to start the Auxiliary Police, the President, through the Government Gazette, gives authority to the Inspector General of the Police Force to supervise and lead the Auxiliary Police forces on his behalf. (c/f. 128 of chapter 322).

Duties of Auxiliary Police

1. To protect the life and property of any particular area.

2. To protect the life and property of any person in a specified area.

3. Helping the Police Force to manage laws and procedures in a specific area.

4. Helping the institution in matters of law enforcement, in carrying out any role or work that exists in accordance with the law.

5. Assist in carrying out law enforcement activities as directed by the Inspector General. (c/f.

4 of the Auxiliary Police Regulations, 2009).

The Importance of Auxiliary Police to the Community.

1. To control and reduce crime in Special areas

2. To represent the police force administratively and operationally to the public they serve.

3. To connect the police force with the special areas that employ them.

4. Simplifying the work of the Police in protecting the lives of people and their property in the Tanzanian community.
