The Orientation week will start on Saturday 3rd  to 10th November 2018

The Office of Dean of Students does the following activities during the orientation week to ensure smooth transition to new students (FRESHERS)

Receptive friendly services to freshers:

  1. DoS Office usually trains students volunteers to assist in welcoming freshers. Their responsibilities are to guide freshers to know the university and follow programmes. They wear IDs labeled ‘’ASK ME’’ to identify them
  2. Orientation program activities are prepared to assist freshers what to do and where to be in a respective time
  3. Fresher are oriented to each unit available to University of Dar es Salaam for example: -
  • Guided to make payment to Finance Department to pay for their relevant fees
  • Smart card unit for processing Identification Cards (IDs)
  • Student IDs are being collected to their respective Colleges/Schools/Colleges
  •  Guided to get registered in ARIS to their respective Colleges/Schools/Institute
  • Get introduced to University Health Center
  • Get introduced to Moodle LMS programme under Centre for Virtual learning

    4. Freshers conduct Tour at Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere Mlimani Campus with the help of student volunteers and student leaders

    5. Freshers are empowered in various areas of their life through empowerment programmes.

    6. Freshers get introduced to joint briefing programmes where they are oriented to general life at UDSM

The joint briefing programmes include:

  • Library Programmes to know Library services
  • Introduced to Religious programmes CCT chaplain, TEC Chaplain, MSAUD Amir, and SDA Chaplain
  • Introduced to games and sports
  • Learning entertainment with Dean of Students particularly aimed to let freshers to know services available at DoS
  • Special address on gender issues
  • Special address on security issues
  • Special address on HIV/AIDS issues by University Health Center Medical Services
  • Special address on National Health Insurance (NHIF) by NHIF officials
  • Special address on Students’ Loans catered by HESLB
  • Special address on students’ union issues by Students leadership (DARUSO)
  • Empowerment Programme by UDSM Technical AIDS Committee
  • At the end of orientation programmes   freshers get the opportunity to meet with the University Management and get introduced to Principals; Deans; Director of the respective Colleges; Schools and Institutes. This is commonly known as Vice Chancellor’s day (VCs Day).
