Dr Magai holds a PhD in International Trade and Economics from Dong-A University, South Korea. His professional knowledge is anchored in profound theoretical and practical competence in trade economics and business management. He has been associated with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), World Trade Organisation (WTO), Geneva, and HTW Berlin University of Applied Sciences in Germany where he spent considerable time as a visiting scholar. He is currently recognised by the International Trade Centre (ITC) as a Certified Trainer on ITC market analysis tools (Trade Map and Market Access Map).

Dr Magai has extensive knowledge and experience in carrying out research, training and consulting in the areas of international trade, urban economics, investments (FDI), project planning, and management together with public policy analysis and advocacy. He has taught both undergraduate and postgraduate courses for over 15 years at the University of Dar es Salaam.

Dr Magai is also a Town Planner holding a BSc in Urban and Regional Planning from the then University College of Lands and Architectural Studies (UCLAS), of the University of Dar es Salaam. He is competent in using several computer applications packages such as GIS, IBM SPSS Statistics 19, STATA, WITS, and E-Views9(*64) programme.
