Dr Yohana Wilson Shaghude is a Senior Lecturer in Marine Geology, Oceanography and Marine Remote Sensing. He has been working at the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) since April 1986. He did his postgraduate studies at Dalhousie University, Canada (Advanced Diploma in Marine Affairs, 1991-1992); University of Southampton, UK (MSc in Oceanography, 1988-1989) and Stockholm University, Sweden (PhD in Sedimentology, 1996-2001). He has extensive research experience in climate change (especially shoreline change/coastal erosion), coastal geomorphology, sea bottom topography, coastal/marine sediments and remote sensing (marine applications). He conducts lectures on Geological Oceanography, Marine Instrumentation, Marine Non-living Resources to undergraduate students and Marine Geology, Marine Remote Sensing to postgraduate students. He has extensive supervision experience of both MSc and PhD students. Over the last 10 Years he has supervised about 10 postgraduate students. He has been the Deputy Director of the Institute for 3 years from 2012 to 2015 and Director of the Institute for 2 years 2015 to 2017. He has extensive experience in coordinating both locally and externally funded research or consultancy projects. Over the last 10 years he has coordinated more than 10 research/consultancy research projects. He has participated in several research cruises with regional and international research partners. Nationally, Dr Shaghude is serving as a member of the National Intersectoral Coordinating Committee (NICC) and member of the Deep Sea Fishing Authority (DSFA) research committee.
