REDEMPTA ATHANAS KAJUNGIRO

Lecturer, School Of Aquatic Sciences And Fisheries Technology
Education:

Bachelor (Dar), MSc (Ningbo, China), PhD (SLU, Sweden).

Teaching:

Undergraduate courses:

AQ 122: Introduction to Aquaculture AQ 340: Genetics,

Breeding and Seed Production

Postgraduate courses:

AF 608 - Broodstock Management and Hatchery Production

Research:

My research interests include population genetics, quantitative genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, gene expression and immunology. Specifically, I explore the genetic diversity and adaptation of domestic and wild animals, how genetic variation and environment contribute to phenotypic variation of aquaculture species and the use of bioinformatics skills and tools to analyse genomic data for breeding programs.

Projects:

Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI)- UNESCO-TWAS The current project aims to implement Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) breeding programs for better seeds production to the fish farmers.
