Master of Arts in Gender Studies at the Institute of Development Studies which is an interdisciplinary program of 18 months (offered as taught and by thesis). It aims to produce graduates in the field of Gender and Development capable of handling complex social, economic, political, legal and cultural issues that require gender insights and to meet up labour market’s needs in the country and beyond. The graduates will be able to work with multidisciplinary research teams; to manage projects and programs with a gender balanced approach; to conduct gender auditing and evaluations; to have ability to mainstream gender in policies and programs; to design gender inclusive policies, plans and programmes; to have ability to influence policies and plans through research and advocacy; to have ability to develop gender mainstreaming plans and gender budgeting; to prepare and deliver course in the sub field of gender and development, and use informed evidence in decision making.
Entry Requirements
A candidate shall be deemed eligible for consideration for admission into a master’s degree in Gender
Studies Degree Programme if they hold the following qualifications:
i. At least a second-class degree of the University of Dar es Salaam or an equivalent degree from a recognised institution of higher learning.
ii. Candidates with a pass degree may also be considered for admission if:
a) their undergraduate performance in the proposed subject of study was a B grade or higher; or b) they have satisfied the Institute of Development Studies of their academic potential through
sub-sequent research experience and/or additional training.
iii. Candidates with a coursework average of B+ or higher in specified postgraduate diplomas may
upgrade registration for a dissertation leading to an MA Gender Studies
