Message from the Directors
Welcome to the Confucius Institute at the University of Dar es Salaam.
Established in January 2013 through cooperation between the University of Dar es Salaam and Zhejiang Normal University, the Institute has grown into an important platform for Chinese language education, academic exchange, and cultural engagement between Tanzania and China.
Our mission is to provide high quality Chinese language education, promote mutual understanding, and strengthen educational and people to people connections between our two countries.

Bachelor of Arts in Education – Chinese and English
Comprehensive academic knowledge and practical training that prepare students for professional careers and further studies.
Programme detailsDiploma in Chinese Language
Professional knowledge and practical skills for further studies and careers. Entry: ACSEE with at least two principal passes.
Programme detailsChinese Language Short Courses
Basic (Levels I–II) and Intermediate (Levels III–IV), two months per level. From TSh 120,000 per level.

Collect or download the application form from the Confucius Institute, then follow the steps for your programme.
- Diploma deadline: 30 September each year
- Short-course intakes: five a year (January, March, May, August, October)
- Diploma application fee: TSh 10,000

CI UDSM is an official test centre for the Chinese Proficiency Test and was recognised in 2025 as one of the world's top-performing HSK test centres.
