Master of Arts in Development Management is 18 months program offered as taught and by thesis. It aims to provide understanding of development by addressing the growing international, national and local manpower needs in planning, designing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development plans, policies, programmes and projects. It is intended to impart knowledge and skills for translating into reality and implementing international and national policies and plans such as different national development plans, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Graduates of MA in Development Management will acquire ability to critically analyse roles of development institutions; to formulate, implement and analyse development interventions; to acquire and apply knowledge and skills of planning, designing, monitoring and evaluation of development projects, interventions and processes; and conduct research and advance knowledge for managing development.
Entry Requirements
A candidate shall be deemed eligible for consideration for admission into a master’s degree in
Development Management if they hold the following qualifications:
i. At least a second-class degree of the University of Dar es Salaam or an equivalent degree from a recognised institution of higher learning. Candidates who hold an unclassified degree (e.g. MD) should have at least a B grade average in the subject of intended Masters Study.
ii. Candidates with pass degree may also be considered for admission if:
a) their undergraduate performance in the proposed subject of study was a B grade or higher; or
b) they have satisfied the Institute of Development Studies their academic potential through subsequent research experience and/or additional training;
iii. Candidates with a coursework average of B+ or higher in specified postgraduate diplomas may upgrade to registration for a dissertation leading to a relevant Masters degree.
