Biography

Richard Kamili is an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam with a background in physical education and sports sciences. He holds a Master’s degree in Sports Science and teaches Sports Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation, Football, and Table Tennis. He brings over nine years of experience teaching and doing consultation works related to physical education and sports in both local and international organizations, delivering instruction through national and international curricula, including the Cambridge IGCSE Physical Education curriculum. His research interests focus on sports injury epidemiology, injury management practices in schools, and the promotion of safe and inclusive physical activity.

Projects

Empowering Physical Education Program (EPEP) Project

University of Dar es Salaam, in collaboration with University of Oulu, University of Eastern Finland and State University of Zanzibar 2024 - 2027.

  1. Serving as a core representative from the University of Dar es Salaam in a Tanzania–Finland partnership funded under the Team Finland Knowledge (TFK) program.
  2. Contributing to the development and integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)-focused curriculum within Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) programs.
  3. Engaged in cross-cultural pedagogical exchange, participatory action research, and curriculum innovation to strengthen PE teaching and promote physical literacy in both Tanzanian and Finnish contexts.
  4. Facilitating the design and implementation of practical modules, including swimming, life-saving skills, and inclusive PE practices for diverse learning environments.

Field Fitness Testing Officer & Activity Organizer - FOCO Active Project

Sokoine University of agriculture (SUA), University of Dar es salaam (UDSM) and German -Cologne Sports University 2024 - March 2025

  1. Contributed to a two region in Tanzania Pwani (rural) and Dar es salaam (urban) initiative promoting nutrition through physical activity and physical literacy to school children and parents.
  2. Organized and facilitated community-based physical activities, sports bonanzas, and physical literacy sessions to engage diverse age groups.
  3. Conducted and supervised field fitness testing to assess participants’ physical performance and health indicators.
  4. Coordinated with stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery of events and data collection for program evaluation.

Research Assistant – Nationwide Survey for Physical Activity Participation in Tanzania

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) - 2024

  1. Assisted in data collection across multiple regions to assess physical activity participation rates among various population groups in Tanzania.
  2. Conducted structured interviews, administered questionnaires, and ensured data accuracy and completeness.
  3. Collaborated with the research team in preliminary data organization and reporting to support national-level policy recommendations.
