Psychological Research Investigating the Effectiveness of a Brief Intervention on Mental Skills and Physically active Games for Sport and Life-Lifematters

Investigated whether adding LifeMatters (mental skills and physicaly active games)  to the existing after school life skills education soccer program  program increases life satisfaction and the satisfaction of the three basic psychological needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness of coaches and athletes

Girls Empowerment through Girls-to-Girls Sport Education intervention

Assessed the effect of the Girls-to- Girls Sport Education intervention through a quasi-experimental design, comparing outcomes on empowerment variables for randomly chosen schoolgirls (N=100) who  participated in the programme and (N=100)  eligible but did not participate.

Applying positive youth development through sport to nurture youth entrepreneurship

A randomized controlled trial of 15-21 yrs. old secondary school athletes participating  in team and individual sports (N=200) were randomly selected  and assigned to experimental (n= 100) and control  (n= 100) groups based on  gender and type of sport. The experimental group was exposed to a life skills and entrepreneurship education program while the control group received a sport only program.  Pre-post tests were conducted using various measures. Focus groups and interviews were used to collect qualitative data and asses’ program impact.

Using sport for HIV/AIDS education. An intervention using peer coaches

Investigated the effectiveness of a peer-to-peer educational programme to protect against AIDS in a sports context(N=764 children aged 12 – 15 years).  The quasi-experimental project included four groups (2 intervention and 2 control groups). 100 specially trained "peer coaches" were involved as trainers.  Investigated also the effect of a motivational strategy to improve the training effect
