Abdi Talib Abdalla

Biography

Abdi T. Abdalla is an Associate Professor at the College of ICT of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Tanzania and the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of ICT Systems (https://jicts.udsm.ac.tz/index.php/udsm/about/editorialTeam) published by UDSM. He is also a Vice Chairperson of the Governing Board of Al-Maktoum College of Engineering and Technolgoy. His research interests include through-the-wall radar imaging, indoor target localization, the application of compressive sensing to radar signal processing, smart grid, Internet-of-Things, and the application of ICT and emerging technologies in the Blue Economy and community development. 

 

He is the author of more than 60 articles in peer reviewed international journals and conferences. He is also a leading author of the book Through-The-Wall Radar Imaging: Ghost Suppression with Compressive Sensing (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Abdi-Abdalla/publications)Prof. Abdalla registered a patent, smart fishing gear, from BRELA. He was a Principal Investigator and Project Coordinator in a number of funded projects including Through-the-Wall Radar Imaging for Efficient Rescue Missions (COICT-ETE19048); and Smart Energy Metering System (COICT-CSE20032). Currently, he is leading three research and innovation projects: Smart Fishing Innovative Solutions for Effective Conservation and Sustainability of Tanzania Blue Economy (CoICT-ETE23023) funded by UDSM through the Directorate of research and publications; Online Detection of Aflatoxins in Foods (CoAF-FST22148) funded by COSTECH, and Establishment of of a Digital Marketplace for Lake Tanganyika Fishery Communities, funded by FAO. 

 

He has supervised more than 25 research students and currently serves as an external examiner for research students at a number of universities, including the African Center of Excellence in Internet-of-Things (ACEIoT), University of Rwanda; the University of Dodoma; the State University of Zanzibar and Mbeya University of Science and Technology. Prof. Abdalla received many awards for excellence in research. He constantly serves as a research reviewer for a number of organziations, in and outside the country. Also, received many awards for outstanding article reviewing from reputable journals.
