Biography

Geofrey Kakulu Majara is a dedicated academic practitioner currently serving as a Tutorial Assistant at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Dar es Salaam. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of Dar es Salaam – School of Journalism and Mass Communication (UDSM-SJMC). Prior to his current appointment, he served at the Arusha East African Training Institute, where he facilitated Journalism studies at certificate and diploma levels for a period of three years, delivering courses including Action Research, News Writing, News Gathering, Data Journalism, Media Ethics, and Communication Skills. He subsequently served at the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) for one and a half years as a part-time Tutorial Assistant in the Bachelor of Multimedia and Mass Communication programme, where he facilitated modules such as International Journalism, Communication Theory, Social and Ethical Issues in Media, Critical Thinking, and Social Media and Publishing. He has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to intellectual development and academic excellence.

In his present role at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, he conducts tutorials, seminars, and practical sessions to reinforce students’ academic advancement and provides support to senior faculty in the delivery of academic programmes. He is actively engaged in assisting research, consultancy, and outreach initiatives undertaken by the institution. Moreover, he understudies senior academic staff through participation in lectures, seminars, and practical training sessions as part of his professional development and preparation for higher academic responsibilities. His teaching responsibilities provide a platform for direct engagement with students and for fostering analytical, critical, and independent thinking. Through these roles, he continues to make a constructive contribution to the advancement of higher education and the broader development of society in Tanzania.

 

Research Interest

Geofrey Kakulu Majara’s research interests include communication for development with a particular focus on climate change communication and the role of digital communication strategies in advancing social transformation. He is equally interested in the application of Artificial Intelligence in modern communication and media practice. In addition, his research area of interest is international journalism, especially how different government structures shape the nature of mass communication and journalism within a country.
