Biography

Joseph Isaac Masangula is a dynamic and multitalented legal academician who combines a solid foundation in legal knowledge with a forward-thinking approach to contemporary legal challenges. Serving currently as a Tutorial Assistant at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law, he is deeply committed to legal education, research, and mentorship, actively contributing to the development of future legal professionals in Tanzania.

Joseph earned his Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) from the University of Dar es Salaam with distinction and was recognized as the 2nd Best Overall Student in the LL.B. Class of 2024. He was a recipient of the Merit Scholarship awarded by the University, in recognition of his exceptional performance at the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE).

His academic journey has been nationally celebrated. In the ACSEE 2020 examinations, Joseph was named Tanzania One (T.O.), also, ranked as the 1st Best Male Student Nationwide, the 1st Best Male Student from Government Schools, and 2nd Best in both Kiswahili and History. His outstanding academic performance was formally acknowledged by the High Court of Tanzania, reflecting his early promise as a legal scholar and future leader in the profession.

Joseph’s involvement in academic and legal competitions further illustrates his dedication to both legal theory and practice. He was awarded 2nd Place in East Africa and Best in Tanzania in the 20th ICRC Essay Competition (2022), and again named Best in Tanzania in the 21st ICRC Essay Competition (2023). He also ranked 17th in Africa in the APN Essay Competition (2022) and emerged as Champion of the Victory Attorneys National Moot Court Competition (2022). Internationally, he represented the University of Dar es Salaam and Tanzania at the Willem C. Vis Moot Court Competition in Vienna, Austria (2023) and the Great Lakes Regional Moot Court Competition in Kigali, Rwanda (2023).

These experiences have equipped him with advanced skills in legal research, policy analysis, academic writing, and oral advocacy skills he brings into the classroom and his academic work. Beyond academia, Joseph served as a Media Monitoring and Communications Expert at the World Bank Group – Tanzania (2023–2024), gaining valuable professional experience in legal communication and development policy.

His academic interests include Taxation Law, Corporate Law, Real Estate Law, Investment Law, Banking Law, and International Commercial Arbitration. As an emerging scholar, Joseph is committed to producing impactful legal research, promoting critical legal thought, and contributing to legal reforms at both national and regional levels.
