Biography

Dr. Maalim has been working with Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Dar es Salaam for more than fifteen years. Hei is now Principal Lab Scientist and Researcher Scientist in environmental pollution and control. He possesses a PhD in Environmental Engineering with experience covers most aspects of engineering development in both public and private sector projects in Tanzania. Previously, he worked with Department of Water development linked with Urban Water Supply Project funded by FINNIDA. He has done a lot of designing of the drainage systems of Zanzibar town, improvement of water quantity and water quality for Zanzibar town. He has the experience and expertise in borehole drilling projects and actively participated in deep well drilling for both Zanzibar and Pemba funded by several donors like UNICEF, ADB, World Bank, etc. He has participated in several national and international conferences and gave some presentations within the field of environmental engineering. He participated as an international scholar to the global environment team at the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University in USA from September to December 2004. He now holds Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from University of Dar es Salaam. He has been a prominent team member in undertaking several Environmental and Social Impact Assessments of both public and private sector projects. For a past consecutive ten years He has been engaged in a number of the World Bank projects in Zanzibar as a Social and Environmental Safeguards Specialist.
