Ms. Hellen Joseph Kizenga is an Assistant Lecturer and Researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar. She holds a Master’s degree in Marine Sciences and a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Dar es Salaam. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, where her research focuses on the application of citizen science and cost-effective ocean observing technologies for global coastal monitoring.

Ms. Kizenga has over eight years of experience in ocean and coastal research. Her work spans Observational Oceanography, Remote Sensing, Fisheries Oceanography, Citizen Science, and Coastal Monitoring. She aims to enhance the understanding of coastal resilience and ocean–climate interactions, while promoting sustainable approaches to marine and coastal resource management in the Western Indian Ocean and beyond.
