Biography

Julius Loth Sanga is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Creative Arts at the University of Dar es Salaam, where he teaches music performance and theory. He holds a Master of Arts in Music (2024) and a Bachelor of Arts in Music (2020) from the University of Dar es Salaam, alongside a Diploma in Performing Arts and a Certificate in Arts from Bagamoyo College of Arts (TaSUBa). His graduate research examined the interaction between muziki wa injili (gospel music) and muziki wa dansi (dance music) in church worship in Dar es Salaam, drawing on ethnographic fieldwork, observation, and participation in worship performances.

A versatile multi-instrumentalist (guitar, saxophone, keyboard), Julius has served as Conductor and Music Director of the University of Dar es Salaam Choir and Fusion Band since 2017, and has led church and gospel ensembles since 2003. He is a recognized adjudicator and trainer for Lutheran choral competitions in Dar es Salaam and was named Best Student Instrumentalist at UDSM (2019/2020). Before joining UDSM, he taught performing arts at Bagamoyo College of Arts (TaSUBa).
