Community-Focused Innovations Take Centre Stage as UDSM Showcases Research Excellence at 50th Sabasaba Trade Fair

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is showcasing a wide range of research-driven innovations, technologies and community-centred solutions at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), underscoring its commitment to advancing knowledge that addresses societal challenges and supports Tanzania's national development agenda.
Speaking during her visit to the University's exhibition pavilion on the opening day of the Fair, the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, Prof. Rose Upor, said this year's exhibition demonstrates UDSM's strategic focus on translating research and innovation into practical solutions that improve people's lives while expanding access to quality higher education.
"The exhibits we have brought to this year's Trade Fair directly respond to the needs of Tanzanians. Beyond showcasing our research and innovations, we are also providing information on the University's academic programmes, admission requirements and the wide range of opportunities available to prospective students. This is an important platform for engaging with the public and demonstrating how UDSM contributes to national development," said Prof. Upor.
She said the University is using the Trade Fair not only to exhibit cutting-edge research and technological innovations, but also to strengthen public awareness of its academic programmes, consultancy services and community outreach initiatives. According to her, the annual event provides an important opportunity to connect with prospective students, industry stakeholders, development partners and the wider public.
Prof. Upor also commended the quality and presentation of the UDSM pavilion, describing it as a fitting reflection of the University's excellence in teaching, research, innovation and public service. She praised the dedication of the University's colleges, schools, institutes, directorates, departments and administrative units for working together to deliver a vibrant and informative exhibition.
"The University of Dar es Salaam offers education of the highest quality. I warmly invite members of the public to visit our pavilion and experience first-hand the innovations, research and learning opportunities that continue to distinguish UDSM as a leading institution of higher learning," she said.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor made the remarks while touring the UDSM pavilion during the official opening of the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, which was inaugurated by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, alongside the President of the Republic of Mozambique, H.E. Daniel Francisco Chapo.
Throughout this year's exhibition, UDSM is presenting research breakthroughs, innovative technologies and practical solutions developed across its colleges, schools and institutes, reaffirming its role as a leading centre of excellence committed to driving innovation, empowering communities and contributing to Tanzania's transition towards a knowledge-based and sustainable economy.
