With a solid educational foundation in Computer Engineering and Information Technology, Fanuel Hume has been a dedicated professional in the field since earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Dar es Salaam in 2004.
As a Senior ICT Officer, Hume has been instrumental in the implementation of ICT strategies aligned with the university's goals. He manage and maintain servers, networks, and computer systems, ensuring the security and integrity of data through robust security measures. His role includes overseeing system upgrades, patches, and backups, as well as monitoring and maintaining network infrastructure, troubleshooting and resolving SJMC network issues to ensure optimal performance.
He provides technical support to staff and users for hardware and software issues, coordinating with external vendors for maintenance.
He also taught Online Journalism, Layout and Graphics, and Computer Applications for Journalists courses, catering to both evening and online students.
A prolific producer, Fanuel Hume created the technology-based TV program "Technosoga," which was broadcasted on Mlimani TV and its contents are available online. His expertise extends to conducting training sessions, such as training on Moodle Course Management System for SJMC teaching staff and a training on Presentation Skills & Communication with Media for Ethics Secretariat Personnel. He also assist students and staff with SPSS for research purposes and have supervised the installation and management of a Multi WAN system on campus.
Fanuel Hume has been actively involved in various research assignments, including the UDSM Tracer Study, research on SunKing products, and the HAKIELIMU project on violence against girls in Tanzanian schools, Yearbook on Media Quality in Tanzania, TBC Audience Research etc. He also contributed to projects like the UNDP Project on Youth Participation in Elections and have consistently supported students and staff with data analysis using SPSS.
In addition to his professional roles, Fanuel Hume has participated in numerous training programs, such as Nvivo software for qualitative analysis, CSPro software for data entry and analysis, IBM SPSS software for quantitative research, and Mobenzi software for digitizing fieldwork. They have also conducted specialized training sessions, including forensic art portrait processing for the Tanzania Police Force and community training on social media aspects under the Gender Links Initiative.
