UDSM Tops Tanzania’s CPA(T) Examinations in May 2026

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) has once again demonstrated its academic excellence after emerging as the leading higher learning institution in Tanzania in the Certified Public Accountant CPA(T) examinations conducted by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) in May 2026.
The results released by the NBAA show that 89 out of 349 successful CPA(T) candidates graduated from UDSM, representing 25.4 percent of all candidates who passed the professional examinations. The performance places UDSM at the top of all universities and higher learning institutions in the country.
The Institute of Finance Management (IFM) ranked second with 63 successful candidates (18.0%), followed by Mzumbe University with 37 (10.6%), the Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) with 31 (8.9%), and the Arusha Institute of Accountancy (IAA) with 26 (7.4%).
The latest achievement marks a significant improvement from the May 2025 CPA(T) examinations, in which UDSM produced 72 successful candidates (15.8%) and ranked second nationally. The 2026 results underscore the University’s continued commitment to delivering quality teaching, professional training, and producing graduates who excel in nationally recognised professional examinations.
Speaking while announcing the results of the 103rd NBAA Examination Session in Dar es Salaam, NBAA Executive Director, CPA Prof. Siasa Mzenzi, said the May 2026 examinations attracted 7,715 candidates across various accounting professional qualification levels.
He further noted that women recorded an impressive performance, accounting for 54.4 percent of all successful candidates, despite representing 49.2 percent of the total examination candidates.
“In the current CPA examinations, the pass rate among women has increased significantly. We are encouraging girls in secondary schools and higher learning institutions to view accounting as a field in which they can excel. We believe they have the potential to perform even better, become Certified Public Accountants (CPA holders), and make valuable contributions to our institutions in the fields of accounting and auditing,” said CPA Prof. Mzenzi.
The CPA(T) qualification is one of Tanzania’s most respected professional certifications in accounting and auditing. UDSM’s strong performance reflects the University’s dedication to preparing graduates with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competence required to contribute effectively to the country’s financial and economic development.
