UDSM Staff Make Waves at SHIMMUTA 2025, Claiming Top Honours in Morogoro

Staff of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 Sports Federation of Public Organizations, Institutions and Private Companies in Tanzania (SHIMMUTA) games held in Morogoro Region, recently, underscoring the University’s strong commitment to staff wellness, teamwork, and institutional excellence through sports.
UDSM’s participation in the annual SHIMMUTA games brought together staff members from various departments who competed with discipline, unity, and professionalism across multiple sporting disciplines.
The University’s teams demonstrated not only a high level of competitive spirit but also a shared sense of purpose, reflecting UDSM’s broader objective of fostering a healthy, cohesive, and motivated workforce.
In football, the UDSM staff team mounted a commendable campaign, advancing confidently through the preliminary and knockout stages to reach the semi-finals. Their journey was marked by effective tactical organization, strong teamwork, and consistent performances against highly competitive opponents, earning them respect across the tournament.
UDSM recorded outstanding success in volleyball, particularly in the men’s category, where the team emerged as overall champions. The title was secured through coordinated play, technical excellence, and sustained competitive focus throughout the competition.
The women’s volleyball team also put up a determined performance, progressing to the quarter-final stage before exiting after a closely contested match that highlighted their discipline and fighting spirit.
In basketball, UDSM staff dominated the competition, with the women’s basketball team crowned tournament champions following a series of well-execututed matches characterized by strong defense, teamwork, and efficient scoring. The men’s basketball team also delivered a strong showing, finishing third overall after demonstrating resilience and consistency throughout the tournament.
UDSM staff athletes further strengthened the University’s presence at SHIMMUTA 2025 through active participation in athletics, particularly in middle- and long-distance races. Their performances reflected individual commitment, endurance, and determination, contributing positively to the University’s overall standing at the games.

Commenting on the University’s performance, the Director of Social Services, Dr. Lulu Mahai, commended the teams for their dedication and exemplary conduct.
