Diversity, inclusion and belonging

The objective is to create a culture of diversity, inclusion and belonging in support of UDSM’s mission. Establishment of the Centre for Disabilities strengthens UDSM’s role to provide support to diverse groups of staff and students. (to be linked to CDS)

Staff development and training

DHRMA is responsible to ensure training and development of staff is conducted as per relevant schemes of service for staff members. DHRMA coordinates and facilitate staff development initiatives at UDSM. It also provides learning and development opportunities to the staff.

As part of staff development and capacity building currently a total of 367 academic staff are on studies. 309 are pursuing PhD programme while 58 are on master’s degree programmes. Female staff on studies are 110 while 257 are male.

Professional Development

UDSM staff members are encouraged to engage in professional development activities to increase their job skills and knowledge for their current positions as well as their long-term careers. Professional development activities may be conference attendance, seminars, research activities etc.

Employee Relations

Employee relations concerns with the management and regulation of relationships between the organisation, individual staff member and groups of staff within the working environment. This involves staff grievances, discipline, employee representations, life events, death and disability.

Staff performance and promotion

Performance management

Staff performance is conducted on annual basis using an Online Open Performance Appraisal System (OPRAS).

Promotion

Staff promotion is done as per scheme of service. Specifically academic staff from the rank of Lecturer are promoted subject to attaining required publication points for a respective rank. Assessment of publications is done as per the UDSM Guidelines for Assessment of Academic Staff Performance Revised Ed. 2022.
