UDSM Pursues Public and Private Sector Partners to Turn Research into National Development Solutions

By Selemani Nambimbi, CMU

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) has intensified its call for stronger partnerships with public and private sector institutions, inviting stakeholders to collaborate in transforming research and innovation into practical solutions that drive Tanzania's socio-economic development.

The invitation was made by the University's Director of Public Services, Prof. Neema Godfrey Mori, during her visit to the UDSM pavilion at the ongoing 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Sabasaba, in Dar es Salaam.

Prof. Mori, who also serves as Chairperson of the Boards of the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA), CRDB Bank Plc, and Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), said strategic partnerships remain essential for translating university research into innovations that create tangible impact across society.

"The University of Dar es Salaam is committed to building stronger partnerships with stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. We warmly invite institutions, industries, development partners and investors to engage with us so that together we can identify areas of mutual interest and establish collaborations that benefit both the University and the nation," she said.

She noted that UDSM has developed a wide range of research outputs, technologies and innovations that are ready for commercialization and wider application, adding that collaboration with industry and other stakeholders is key to accelerating their uptake and maximizing their contribution to national development.

"Our researchers continue to generate innovative solutions to address societal challenges. Through strategic partnerships, these innovations can be commercialised and scaled up to improve livelihoods, enhance productivity and contribute to sustainable economic growth," Prof. Mori emphasized.

She said the University's participation in the trade fair reflects its commitment to strengthening engagement with industry, government institutions and development partners while showcasing research-driven innovations that respond to real community needs.

Prof. Mori also encouraged prospective students, particularly Form Six graduates and other qualified applicants, to visit the UDSM pavilion to learn more about academic programmes available for admission in the 2026/2027 academic year.

She explained that the University has introduced several new academic programmes aligned with emerging national priorities and global trends, while continuing to equip graduates with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to address contemporary development challenges.

The UDSM pavilion has continued to attract thousands of visitors during the 50th DITF, offering an opportunity to explore the University's cutting-edge research, innovations, consultancy services, community outreach initiatives and admission opportunities.

The exhibition further demonstrates UDSM's growing contribution to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation and promoting sustainable socio-economic transformation through strategic partnerships.
