A BRIEF HISTORICAL EVOLUTION OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Creative Arts (CA) was established in 1967 as the Department of Theatre Arts. In 1974 it was expanded to become the Department of Art, Music and Theatre. In 1996, the name changed to the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, and in 2014 the name changed to the Department of Creative Arts while including some electronic media courses. These changes of names and restructuring of the courses were a reflection of the constant positioning of the department in response to the demands emerging and to the rapidly growing and expanding of the creative industry in the country. Currently the department offers four undergraduate degree programmes namely BA in Theatre, BA in Music, BA in Art and Design, and BA in Film and Television Studies. Also the department offers three four postgraduate degree programmes namely MA in Theatre, MA in Music, MA in Fine Art and PhD by research in music, theatre and Fine Art.
