Elizabeth Maruma MREMA

Elizabeth Maruma Mrema [née Maruma] is our Alumna of the month for July. She was born on 5 January 1957 in Moshi District, Kilimanjaro, where she had her primary education. She obtained her Ordinary-level secondary education at Ashira Girls Secondary School (1971-1974). She moved on to advanced-level secondary education at Tabora Girls in 1975-1976. In August 1978, she was admitted at the University of Dar es Salaam, registering for a three-year degree programme in law at the Faculty [now School] of Law. She graduated with honors LLB in 1981. For 28 years of her professional career to date Mrs. Mrema has been working with the United Nations, serving at different levels.

John Ulanga is the UDSM Alumnus of the Month this July. He was born on 9 April 1971 in Mombasa, Kenya, where his parents were then stationed in the employ of the East Africa Community. His early formal education, however, was accessed in Tanzania, beginning with primary education from 1978 –1984 at several primary schools for different grades (Muhimbili, Chang’ombe, and Gerezani), thereafter proceeding to secondary education at Azania Secondary School. His performance at Mazengo High School in Dodoma at A-Level (1989–1990) was equally brilliant. In 1993, he was admitted to the then-Faculty of Commerce and Management at the University of Dar es Salaam where he undertook a three-year Bachelor of Commerce degree programme in Accounting, which he completed in 1996.
