The Legal Aid Clinic was originally established in 1967 as the Legal Aid Committee, and it was officially transformed into the UDSM Legal Aid Clinic in 2025. Since its inception, the Committee has carried out its responsibilities with a high degree of integrity, professionalism, and volunteerism.
Fluoride contamination in groundwater remains a major public health challenge in northern Tanzania, particularly in Oldonyosambu and Oldonyowas wards of Arusha District. Many residents depend on groundwater sources with fluoride levels exceeding WHO’s recommended limit (1.5 mg/L), leading to widespread dental and skeletal fluorosis. Rainwater harvesting (RWH) offers a low-cost and sustainable alternative for providing safe drinking water in these communities.

Objectives

The Department of Geography in collaboration with the University of Cape Town’s Environmental Humanities South (EHS) is implementing a four-year research project namely: Critical Zones Africa, South and East (CzASE). The project is funded by the Science for Africa Foundation (SFA).
