The chemistry Department, a teaching department under the college of Natural and Applied Sciences, was established in 1965. It is the most highly ranked chemistry academic institution in Tanzania. The main objectives of the department are teaching, research and consultancy. With more than 25 Ph.D. holders among its staff the Department enjoys a health teaching, research and consultancy programs that covers many of the major areas of chemistry and applied sciences in particular, agriculture, environmental, analytical, industrial, inorganic, organic, physical, natural products, biochemical, quality assurance and materials science. The chemistry Department is strongly linked to many Tanzania industries and government departments through its graduates who are employed in these institutions.
