The Library Directorate has recently conducted a workshop on turnitin for DUCE academic staff. The event that took place at the library computer laboratory aimed at promoting ethical writing practices and maintaining the integrity of academic work.

Speaking during the opening session, the Assistant Librarian and the acting Director of the Library, Mr. Daudi Danda said turnitin plays a crucial role in upholding academic standards, fostering integrity, and supporting teaching and learning process in educational settings.

Similarly, the facilitator and the Assistant Librarian in the Directorate of Library Services, Mr. Asifiwe Makawa said turnitin functions within academic contexts by serving as a plagiarism detection tool and providing students with feedback on the originality of their work. He further added that turnitin aggregates data on plagiarism trends and patterns, which can be valuable for researchers and educators in understanding academic integrity.

During the workshop, trainees were briefed on various topics including an overview of plagiarism, safeguarding academic integrity, turnitin feedback studio and turnitin similarity report, among others.

Turnitin is a widely used plagiarism detection service employed by educational institutions. It compares submitted documents to a vast database of academic and non-academic content to identify any instances of potential plagiarism. It is a tool commonly used by both students and educators to uphold academic integrity.
