On April 19th, 2024, the Head of the Internationalization and Convocation Unit, Dr. Mjege Kinyota, presented certificates to 95 students who successfully completed a course in teaching Kiswahili as a foreign language.

The Acting Head of Kiswahili Unit, Dr. Magreth Kibiki, said the general objective of the course is to enable learners acquire basic skills and methods of teaching Kiswahili within and outside the country. She also added that the course imparts skills to teach Kiswahili to foreigners destined to work in Tanzania and other countries where Kiswahili is used.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kinyota underscored the Department of Languages and Literature's commitment in organizing such short courses each semester. He emphasized how the acquired skills and teaching methodologies would empower graduates in their pursuit of employment opportunities, including avenues for self-employment.

There is no doubt that Kiswahili holds the distinction of being the fastest-growing language in Africa and globally. Henceforth, teaching Kiswahili through these short courses likely to attract people from every corner of the globe, eager to acquire essential language skills.
