The Department of Languages and Literature at DUCE hosted its departmental presentation seminar on 4th January 2024. The presentations were held at DUCE Library computer room. The seminar aimed at instilling research and publication culture among academicians and grooming younger researchers.

The event was officiated by the Acting Head of Department, Dr. Luinasia Kombe. In her opening remarks, Dr. Kombe said departmental seminars serve as a platform for academic members to share their research papers, proposals and findings which demonstrate scholarly engagement.

The presentations covered various themes in languages and literature, including theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, anthropological linguistics, and Kiswahili literature.

The seminar was attended by both senior and junior members of the department including, Prof. Amani Lusekelo, Prof. Devet Goodness and postgraduate students. In his remarks, Prof. Lusekelo applauded seminar presenters, and highlighted the importance of ensuring that all presented manuscripts are finalized and submitted to reputable journals for publication. The presence of postgraduate students not only enriched the seminar but also contributed to achieving its goal of introducing postgraduate students to the research and publication culture.

Departmental seminar presentations are held once in every semester and serve as a demonstration of the DUCE’s unwavering commitment to nurturing a culture of continuous learning, research, and academic excellence.
