President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance has recently conducted a training on performance management system to DUCE staff members on the new performance management systems, namely, the Public Employees Performance Management Information System (PEPMIS) and Public Institutions Performance Management Information System (PIPMIS). The new systems replace the old systems. The training was presented by two facilitators from the President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance, Mr. Elibariki Fungo and the, Mr. Kauzeni Ramadhani.

Speaking during the opening session, the College Principal, Prof. Stephen Oswald Maluka extended a warm welcoming note to the officers and encouraged them to freely engage in the discussion. Prof. Maluka argued DUCE staff members to pay attention during the training and be free to ask questions whenever faced with challenges. Also, Prof. Maluka highlighted that the knowledge gained will not only enhance performance at the College but also achieve the government's set goals.

During the training, Mr. Fungo elaborated that the new systems have been introduced due to the identified weaknesses of the previous OPRAS and IPCS systems. He highlighted the weakness of the previous system that it did not accurately reflect definite performance of employees, and in some institutions, supervisor’s promoted favoritism or bias to some employees. He therefore said, PEPMIS and PIPMIS will help to address these challenges.

Presenting a closing note, the Deputy Principal (Academic Research and Consultancy), Dr. Christina Raphael Isingo, expressed her gratitude to the facilitators. She assured them that DUCE will promptly implement the new performance appraisal, and she requested the team to overcome the unforeseen challenges. Furthermore, she requested the facilitators to consider suggestions raised during the training. She finally, directed the Human Resource Office Team to provide a healthy support to all staff members to ensure effective use the new system.
