Professor Leonard Paulo Shaidi

Leonard Paulo Shaidi is an Associate Professor at the Department of Public Law. Joining the University in 1975, Prof Shaidi has stayed with the School for over 43 years. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (1974), Master of Laws (1975) and PhD (1986) degrees from University of Dar es Salaam.

Professor Shaidi is also an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania, Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths since 1988. He is a member of Tanganyika Law Society and East Africa Law Society; Bar Associations for Tanzania mainland and East African countries respectively. From 1991 to 1996 Professor Shaidi worked as a Training Adviser in the Kampala based United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and Treatment of Offenders (UNAFRI).

Professor Shaidi has had an active engagement in the School’s administration. For example, he was the head of the then Department of Criminal and Civil Law (Now Public Law) from 1985 to 1991. Between 2006-2009, he was an Associate Dean responsible for Examinations and Graduate Studies.

Professor Shaidi is a prominent criminal lawyer in the country. He has represented numerous clients in various criminal cases. He has also researched and written lengthy in this area. Professor Shaidi may be contacted at;
